Clear Cache Batch File | Home

Good maintenance of public workstations includes clearing out directories with files that are only temporary or of temporary value to a program like the cache files created by the browser. Our solution is to create a clrcache.bat file that clears the Netscape cache. We execute this file from within our autoexec.bat file. Many libraries have also included a line in the autoexec.bat file that clears the c:\temp directory as well. There are also commercially available products that perform these same functions for Netscape and Internet Explorer. In addition to eliminating the cache, they will also automatically remove files such as the history file, newsgroups, recent documents, and cookie files left by users. One example is NSClean (or IEClean) which is available from Privacy Software Corp www.privsoft.com. Another shareware program is called Cover Your Tracks which works with Netscape browsers only. It is available from www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/5610/cyt.html
